We collect as little as we can.

Last updated: May 13, 2026.

This page describes what data Ornis Research collects when you visit ornisresearch.org or write to us, why we collect it, and what we do with it. It applies to the website and to email correspondence sent to addresses ending in @ornisresearch.org.

What we collect

Email correspondence. If you write to us, we keep your message and the email address you wrote from for as long as the correspondence is active and for a reasonable period afterward. Research correspondence is sometimes kept indefinitely as part of an ongoing record.

Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard server-log information when pages are requested: IP address, user-agent string, the URL requested, and a timestamp. These logs exist for diagnostics, security, and abuse prevention. We do not combine them with any other data set.

What we do not collect

We do not set tracking cookies. We do not embed third-party analytics, advertising, or social-media pixels. We do not run a mailing list, a newsletter, or a contact form, so there is no subscriber database. We do not build behavioral profiles of visitors, and we do not sell, rent, or share data with brokers or advertisers.

The site does not request your location, microphone, or camera, and does not require an account to read anything we publish.

Hosting and subprocessors

The site is hosted on Vercel, whose infrastructure operates server logs as described above. Email correspondence is handled through a standard email provider. We do not use any other subprocessors that touch visitor or correspondent data.

Retention and deletion

Server logs are retained for a short period as part of our hosting provider's default operations and are not exported, archived, or analyzed by us. Email correspondence is retained for as long as is useful for the work at hand, unless you ask us to delete it.

You can request deletion of correspondence you have sent us at any time by writing to [email protected]. We will confirm in reply when the deletion is done.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has written to us, please let us know and we will delete the correspondence.

Changes to this policy

We may revise this policy as the site or our practices change. When we do, we will update the date at the top of the page. Material changes will be noted in the revision rather than made silently.

Contact

Privacy questions can be sent to [email protected]. We read everything that arrives and reply, usually within a week.
